AI readiness for travel agencies and tour operators

Trip planning is the flagship use case for assistants. Most operators are unreadable.

The moment

Bea, who runs small-group walking tours

Someone planning a week away asks an assistant for guided walking trips in a region in September, for two people, under a budget.

What the agent needs: Dates, price per person, group size, difficulty and what is included.

What actually happens: Departure dates live in a booking engine, the itinerary is a PDF, and prices appear only after selecting a date. The assistant plans the trip from an aggregator and never mentions the operator.

Which dimensions decide it, and why

AIScan grades five dimensions. These are the ones that carry the outcome for this kind of business.

Commerce

A departure is a dated product with a price and a capacity. Trip and Offer markup with availability is the difference between being planned into someone's holiday and being invisible.

Content

Itineraries, inclusions and difficulty ratings are the comparison fields, and PDFs put all of them out of reach.

Discoverability

One URL per trip and per departure window, in the sitemap. A booking-engine calendar is not a set of pages.

Questions we get asked

Is trip planning really a common assistant task?
It is one of the most common. It is also unusually structured — dates, budgets, party size — which is exactly what an unreadable site cannot satisfy.
Our itineraries are PDFs. Do we have to redo them?
Publish the day-by-day itinerary as HTML on the trip page. Keep the PDF as a download for people who want to print it.
Prices change by departure. How do we handle that?
One Offer per departure with its own price and availability. That is exactly the shape the schema expects.
Do difficulty ratings matter?
They are a frequent qualifier — 'not too strenuous', 'suitable for beginners'. Publish the rating in text and you match those queries.
What about single-supplement and inclusions?
Both are asked about constantly. Text on the trip page, not in a terms PDF.
How do we check a trip page?
Run a per-page scan on that URL — the report shows every field an agent could extract.

Scan your site and see where you actually stand

Free, no account, about twenty seconds. The report names every failing check by ID, shows the evidence we found, and gives the fix for your platform — plus a hand-off prompt you can paste straight into Claude Code or Cursor.
