AI readiness for hotels, B&Bs and short stays

The aggregator answers for you, because the aggregator publishes facts and you publish mood.

The moment

Owen, who runs an eleven-room guesthouse

A traveller asks an assistant for a dog-friendly room with parking, two nights in the spring, walking distance from the station.

What the agent needs: Policies, amenities, distance, availability and a direct rate.

What actually happens: Policies are in a downloadable terms document, amenities are icons with no labels, and rates only exist inside the booking engine. The assistant quotes the aggregator listing, which costs a commission on the booking.

Which dimensions decide it, and why

AIScan grades five dimensions. These are the ones that carry the outcome for this kind of business.

Content

Amenities and policies are the filter. Labelled text plus Hotel or LodgingBusiness structured data — pets, parking, check-in times, accessibility — is how a direct site competes with a listing that has all of it in a database.

Commerce

A direct rate that an assistant can read is the entire argument for booking direct. If your price only exists in a widget, the aggregator wins by default.

Capabilities

Availability is a question rather than a page. Anything that exposes it — even a simple, described endpoint — moves you from being described to being bookable.

Questions we get asked

Why does the aggregator outrank us in AI answers?
Because it publishes structured facts and a price, and most direct sites publish photographs. The gap is data, not quality.
Should we publish rates that change daily?
Publish a from-rate with the season attached. A bounded number is quotable; a booking widget is not readable at all.
Are amenity icons enough?
No — give each one a text label. An unlabelled icon is invisible to everything except a human eye.
What structured data suits a small property?
LodgingBusiness with amenityFeature, checkinTime, petsAllowed and address. It is one block and it answers most of the query.
Does distance to landmarks matter?
It is one of the most common qualifiers in travel queries, so state it in text: minutes to the station, to the beach, to the centre.
How do we prove the change worked?
Re-scan after publishing and compare the report. Monitored sites will also email you when the grade moves.

Scan your site and see where you actually stand

Free, no account, about twenty seconds. The report names every failing check by ID, shows the evidence we found, and gives the fix for your platform — plus a hand-off prompt you can paste straight into Claude Code or Cursor.
