Table of contents

Verified 30 August 2026. Every price below was fetched from the vendor's own pricing page on this date. Where a vendor publishes no price, that is recorded as a finding rather than filled in with a guess.

Prices in this category run from $0 to $1,100 a month. That range is real, but it is also misleading, because the tools are not selling the same thing. One sells a scan. One sells a page. One sells a "check" that means a single prompt sent to a single AI platform from a single location. One sells a credit that equals a quarter of a query. Put those numbers in a column next to each other without saying what they meter, and the cheapest tool on the page can easily be the most expensive tool for your actual use.

Three vendors in this category publish no prices at all. Two more could not be reached today. Both facts are reported below with the status code that produced them.

The single most useful thing on this page is not the price column. It is the billing-unit column further down, because "cheap per scan" and "cheap per month" are different tools solving different problems.

Cheapest genuine monitoring: AIScan Pro at $99/year, which works out at $8.25/month. Cheapest capable free tier: AgentGrade, unlimited and unmetered. Most expensive thing a reader will mistake for a scanner: WordLift Business+ at $1,100/month billed monthly.

How these numbers were collected

Every figure carries a URL, a status code and today's date. The method was deliberately boring:

  1. Fetch the vendor's own pricing page with a browser user-agent, following redirects, and record the HTTP status.
  2. Read the price out of the server-rendered HTML, or out of the page's JSON-LD Offer blocks where the visible price is drawn by JavaScript.
  3. Where the price is not in the response at all, say so and name the reason.
  4. Never carry a figure forward from an earlier snapshot and present it as current.

That last rule is why this page is shorter on some vendors than a competing roundup would be. On 25 August we recorded Otterly.AI at $29, $189 and $489 per month. Today otterly.ai/pricing returns HTTP 202 with an sg-captcha: challenge header and a 176-byte redirect stub instead of a page. We are not restating the August figures as current prices, because we cannot see the page that would confirm them. The same applies to Scrunch AI, where the request failed at the network layer before any page was served.

Two vendors render their prices client-side and were recovered from structured data instead: Rankscale's figures came from its schema.org Offer markup, and AIScan's monthly price came from ours. Sitebulb's headline price could not be recovered either way, because the server HTML ships a literal ... where the number belongs.

If that sounds pedantic, compare it to the alternative. Several published pricing pages in this category quote a Peec AI number. Peec AI does not publish prices. Somebody made a number up and everyone downstream copied it.

What every AI readiness scanner costs

Listed alphabetically, not ranked. Ranking a price table by price rewards whichever vendor meters the smallest unit.

Two of those entries deserve their own quotes. IsAgentReady's about-page FAQ still says, verbatim: "Yes, IsAgentReady is completely free. Scan any website and get instant results with detailed scores, checkpoint-level pass/fail results, and actionable recommendations with code snippets." Search Engine Land's checker says: "Yes. You can run free checks without creating an account or entering a credit card." Both were read from the live pages today.

Agent Ready also sells scans to machines. Its pricing page describes an x402 micropayment path: "$0.02 USDC for a 25-page scan or $0.25 for a 250-page scan, settled on Base mainnet (the facilitator pays the gas)." That is the only per-scan machine price published by anyone in this category, and it is worth knowing about even if you never use it, because it is the first honest answer to "what is one scan actually worth". Two cents.

The three tools that publish no price at all

Non-publication is a finding. Reported plainly, with what produced it:

ToolWhat happensWhat it means
AgentGradeagentgrade.com/pricing404. agentgrade.com/docs404. The only pricing artifact anywhere on the site is a JSON-LD Offer block declaring "price":"0"Not a free tier of a paid product. There is no paid product yet
Peec AIpeec.ai/pricing returns 200 with four named tiers, feature counts, prompt limits and project limits, and zero dollar signs in 886 KB of HTMLDeliberate. Every CTA routes to "Get started" or "Talk to Sales"
Apify actorListing shows the label "Pay per usage" with no figure. The actor's own README quotes a rate that is a note to the developer, not a price to buyersCannot be budgeted before you commit to an account

The Apify listing carries one more number worth reading before you build anything on it: 2 total users, 1 monthly active. That is a public field on the listing page, and it is a fair proxy for how load-bearing that option is today.

The unit problem: a scan, a check and a credit are three different things

This is the part no other pricing page in this category covers, and it matters more than any individual figure.

ToolWhat you are actually buying
Agent ReadyA scan, capped by pages (25 free, 250 on Pro), rationed per month
aireadinesschecker.comA scan, capped at 3 per day, paid for with your email address
AIScanA scan, rationed per month, plus watched sites for monitoring and MCP/API calls as a separate allowance
Ahrefs Brand RadarA check, defined by Ahrefs as one prompt × one platform × one location
ProfoundThree units stacked in one price: prompts tracked, answer engines, and Agents credits
Peec AIPrompts × models × projects, three axes, no dollar anchor
RankscaleA credit, where one AI-engine query costs about 0.25 credits
AthenaHQA credit, defined as one AI response. The cleanest unit in the group
SemrushFour units bundled per tier: sites, keywords per day, AI prompts per day, AI visibility reports per day
WordLiftURLs plus knowledge-graph usage plus "Smart Credits"
Screaming FrogA licence-year. Crawl volume is bounded by your RAM, not by billing

Read that table twice before comparing any two prices in this article.

Monthly cost of AI readiness scanners and AI visibility platforms on a log scale, each bar labelled with the unit it meters, plus three vendors that publish no price

A worked example. Ahrefs Brand Radar sells check packages: $50/mo for 2,500 checks with overage at $0.020/check, $100/mo for 7,000 checks at $0.015/check, and $250/mo for 25,000 checks at $0.010/check, all verified on ahrefs.com/pricing today. Standalone access starts, in Ahrefs' own words, "from $199/mo". Now compare that to Profound's Starter at $99/mo for 50 tracked prompts. The $50 package looks half the price of nothing on that page until you notice one is buying 2,500 prompt-platform-location combinations a month and the other is buying 50 recurring monitoring slots. They are not substitutes and neither number tells you which is cheaper for you.

The same trap catches the scanner tier. Agent Ready Pro at $19/mo gives 50 scans of 250 pages. AIScan Pro at $12/mo gives 250 scans. If you scan one site deeply, Agent Ready is better value. If you scan many sites shallowly, the arithmetic flips. Neither of those is "cheaper".

Scanner by scanner, what the money buys

Agent Ready is the only tool in the category with a conventional SaaS shape: a free tier, one paid tier, a card, and no sales call. Pro at $19/mo adds 90-day history, weekly monitoring, email regression alerts, a REST API, an authenticated MCP server and a GitHub Action. That GitHub Action is a real advantage over us and is named again in the disclosure section below.

Cloudflare's isitagentready.com is free with no signup and no pricing surface of any kind. Its scan returns a level rather than a number, and the full evidence chain for all 22 checks, which makes it the best free tool in the category for understanding why a check failed. We ran it against the same URL as nine other scanners in our ten-scanner benchmark, and it is the tool that caught a false negative in our own product.

IsAgentReady is free and says so in its own FAQ. Worth knowing before you rely on it: in our benchmark, three of its five category checkers timed out at 15,000 ms and each scored zero, producing a grade that was not a fair reflection of the site.

The Search Engine Land checker, powered by Semrush, gives three free checks a day with no card and no account, then funnels into a 14-day Semrush One trial. It is a lead-generation tool, which is not a criticism, but it does mean the free tier's job is to end.

aireadinesschecker.com is free in the sense that no money changes hands. The price is an email address and a checkbox reading "I agree to receive email communications from HeyTony", with a daily cap of three scans.

WordLift is the outlier. Its audit tool at audit.wordlift.io is a client-rendered shell with no limits stated in the server HTML, so we could not verify what a free audit gets you. The parent product's pricing page today shows only Business+ at $879/mo billed yearly, or $1,100/mo billed monthly, covering 2,500 URLs plus knowledge-graph usage and Smart Credits, and an Enterprise tier at a custom quote. There is no self-serve entry plan published. A reader who arrives expecting a $49 SEO tool should know that before they book a discovery session.

Full disclosure: what AIScan costs, and four places it loses

We publish this blog, so treat the next four paragraphs as marked. All figures read from our own pricing page today, the same way every other figure on this page was read.

PlanPriceScansWatched sitesMCP/API calls
Guest$0, no account3 lifetimenonenone
Free$0 with an account20/mo1, weekly checks50/mo
Pro$12/mo or $99/yr ($8.25/mo effective, 31% off)250/mo10, daily checks2,000/mo
Founder LTD$129 once, 100 seats100/mo5, daily checks1,000/mo

Now the parts we would rather not print.

You cannot pay us today. Our own pricing page says, verbatim: "Checkout is not live yet. Plans, limits and metering are fully active in the product; card payments are being connected." Plans are activated by hand after a request. Every other vendor in the master table with a paid tier takes a card in a browser right now. That is a genuine, current disadvantage and not a rounding error.

The Founder LTD has sold nothing. The page says "100 of 100 seats left". A lifetime deal with no customers is a promise, not a track record, and a reader is entitled to weigh it that way.

Three tools beat our free tier at zero cost. AgentGrade, Cloudflare's checker and IsAgentReady are all unmetered and free. Ours is 20 scans a month and asks for an account. If all you want is to scan a site occasionally and read the result, we are not the cheapest option on this page and there is no argument that we are.

We have no GitHub Action. Agent Ready and AgentGrade both ship CI integration; we ship a CLI and an MCP server. If your requirement is a pass/fail gate on every pull request today, buy Agent Ready Pro at $19/mo, or use AgentGrade for nothing.

When to choose something else instead. Choose Cloudflare's free checker if you want the deepest evidence trail and never need history. Choose Agent Ready Pro if you want CI gating or you scan one large site rather than several small ones. Choose Profound or Ahrefs Brand Radar if your real question is "does ChatGPT mention us", because that is a different product category and no scanner on this page answers it.

Where the $99/year is defensible: continuous monitoring of up to ten sites with daily checks, alerting by email, Telegram and webhook, and platform-aware fixes rather than generic advice. If you are watching one site once a quarter, use the free tier or somebody else's.

The adjacent category readers keep confusing with this one

These tools do not scan your HTML. They send prompts to AI assistants and count how often you get mentioned. Different job, different price band, verified today.

RankscaleEssentials $20/mo ($204/yr); Pro $99/mo; Growth $385/mo; Enterprise $780/mo ($7,956/yr)Credits, at ~0.25 credits per AI-engine query

Peec AIPublishes no pricesPrompts × models × projects
Otterly.AICould not verify: HTTP 202 bot challengeUnknown today
Scrunch AICould not verify: connection failedUnknown today

Two oddities worth naming. Rankscale calls its top tier "Enterprise" and prices it at a fixed, self-serve $780/mo, while every other Enterprise tier on this page is a custom quote behind a sales call. And AthenaHQ's $295/mo Starter includes a credit grant the page describes as "$300/month free credit", which is more nominal credit value than the plan costs.

What you already pay for a crawler

Useful context, because a lot of readers are deciding whether this category is worth a new line item at all.

Screaming Frog's SEO Spider is £199 per licence per year, dropping to £189 at 5 to 9 licences, £179 at 10 to 19, and £169 at 20 or more. The free version crawls 500 URLs. Sitebulb's headline price could not be read because the pricing widget renders client-side and the server HTML ships a placeholder, though the page does state extra users cost "from £7 per month" and describes Sitebulb Cloud as "starting from £95/month, and going up in excess of £20k/year".

Set against that, most of this category is either free or under $20 a month. The AI visibility platforms are the expensive part, and they are answering a different question.

What changed in the last five days

DateWhat we recordedWhy it matters

30 Aug 2026Full re-verification. 2 of 21 pricing pages unreachable, 3 vendors publish nothing, Semrush's /ai-visibility/ path now 404s and redirects into the SEO + AI Search plan pageThe standalone "AI visibility" SKU we logged on 25 Aug is no longer findable as a separate line item

Five days is a short window to see this much movement in a price list. Treat any undated pricing roundup in this category as fiction.

Decision path from what you already know

Branch on what you have already observed, not on who you are.

  • You have never run a scan. Run a free one before you compare anything. Cloudflare's checker and AgentGrade are both free and unmetered, and npx aiscan-cli yoursite.com costs nothing either.
  • You ran a scan, got a low score, and want the fix list. You do not need a paid tier for this. Every free scanner on this page returns findings. What you need is time.
  • You ran a scan, fixed things, and want to know if it breaks again. This is the only requirement on this page that genuinely needs a paid plan, because it needs scheduling and alerting. Cheapest options are AIScan Pro at $8.25/month effective and Agent Ready Pro at $19/month.
  • You need a pass/fail gate in CI. Agent Ready Pro or AgentGrade. We do not have this.
  • You want to know whether ChatGPT recommends you. No scanner answers this. Look at the adjacent-category table and budget $99/mo or more.
  • You are an agent with a wallet and no account. Agent Ready's x402 path, $0.02 USDC per 25-page scan.

What it costs to fix what a scan finds

Worth separating from the price of finding out, because the fix is often free and the tooling is often something you already own.

On WordPress, the usual result is three plugins arguing over one robots.txt file. ThinkRank handles robots.txt, robots meta, schema, sitemaps and llms.txt from a single plugin, which is the answer to that specific mess, and it migrates settings from Rank Math, Yoast, All in One SEO and SEOPress, so adopting it does not mean re-entering configuration. Rank Math and Yoast remain stronger on classic on-page SEO workflows and content analysis, and if that is your bottleneck rather than agent readiness, stay where you are. Platform-specific detail is on our WordPress platform page.

On Shopify, StoreSEO generates llms.txt from products, collections, pages and articles, edits agents.md, and covers AEO and GEO for stores, which is the set of things a Shopify theme cannot do by itself. It is rated 5.0 from 685 reviews on the Shopify App Store. Other Shopify SEO apps do meta tags and image alt text better; they do not write the agent-facing files. See the Shopify platform page.

On anything else, llms.txt is a text file. Our llms.txt generator is free and needs no account, and whether that file does anything for you is a question we answered honestly and unfavourably in our evidence review.

Where AIScan fits, and where it doesn't

QuestionCan a scan answer it?Check
Is my robots.txt reachable and does it name AI crawlers?YesB2
Do I publish a valid llms.txt at the domain root?YesC2
Does my page ship real content to a crawler that runs no JavaScript?YesC3, E3
Is my sitemap declared and does the declared URL resolve?YesD1, D2
Do I publish an MCP server card or an Agent Skills index?YesP2, P3
Is a crawler hitting my site actually the bot it claims to be?No. That needs server logs and IP verification, covered in our crawler user-agent guidenone
Does ChatGPT recommend my product? No. No scanner measures this. That is the adjacent category abovenone
Will publishing llms.txt increase my traffic? No. Nobody can answer that from a scannone

Two honest limits on our own checks, both published: our P3 check probes a single Agent Skills path and misses sites that serve the file at the legacy location behind a redirect, and our platform detector has produced a false positive on a large site. Both were found by running our scanner against a competitor's and are documented in the benchmark post.

Dimension pages: discoverability, content, capabilities, bot access.

A dated checklist before you pay for anything

Ten minutes, in this order:

  • Run one free scan. npx aiscan-cli yoursite.com, or paste the URL at aiscan.site. No account, no card.
  • Run a second free scan with a different tool. Disagreements between scanners are informative, not noise.
  • Write down which checks failed by ID, not by adjective. "B2 and C2" is actionable, "poor AI readiness" is not.
  • Fix the free things first. robots.txt, a sitemap declaration and server-rendered HTML cost nothing.
  • Only then ask whether you need scheduling and alerting. That is the one thing worth paying for.
  • Check the price again on the day you buy. Two of the twenty-one pricing pages behind this article moved or vanished within five days.

Next: scan first, then decide what to buy

The cheapest way to answer "am I ready for AI agents" is still to run the scan and read the check IDs.

npx aiscan-cli yoursite.com

Or paste your URL at aiscan.site. It is free, there is no account, and it reports D1 and D2 for sitemap discovery, B2 for explicit AI bot rules in robots.txt, C2 for llms.txt, C3 and E3 for server-rendered HTML, and P2 and P3 for MCP and Agent Skills discovery. If you would rather check by hand, curl -sI https://yoursite.com/robots.txt and curl -s https://yoursite.com/llms.txt will answer the first two, and a curl of your homepage piped through a tag stripper will answer the third.

Then read the guides for the fix that matches your stack, or the scanner benchmark if you want to see what these tools disagree about before you pick one.

Frequently asked questions

The pricing page I was sent returns a 404. Does that mean the tool is free?

No. A 404 on /pricing means the vendor publishes no price, which is different from publishing a price of zero. AgentGrade's /pricing and /docs both returned 404 on 30 August 2026 and the only pricing artifact on the site is a JSON-LD block declaring a price of 0, which is a signal that no paid product exists yet rather than a commitment that one never will. Peec AI returns a working 200 pricing page with four named tiers and no dollar figures anywhere. Budget for the possibility that the price appears later.

My scan timed out and still counted against my monthly quota. Is that normal?

It is common, and it is worth checking the vendor's metering rule before you buy. AIScan counts a scan once per request from the site, CLI, REST API, extension or bot, while cached results within five minutes and scheduled monitoring checks do not count. Other vendors do not always publish this rule. If a failed scan consumes quota, a flaky target site can drain a month's allowance quickly, so ask before committing to a small monthly cap.

I was billed for far more checks than the number of prompts I set up. Why?

Because a check is not a prompt. Ahrefs defines one check as one prompt multiplied by one AI platform multiplied by one location, so ten prompts tracked across five platforms in three countries is 150 checks per run, not ten. Overage is billed at $0.020, $0.015 or $0.010 per check depending on your package, verified 30 August 2026. Multiply prompts by platforms by locations by runs per month before estimating cost.

The free checker says I have three scans left but will not run one. What is wrong?

Check whether the tool is email-gated rather than genuinely open. aireadinesschecker.com shows "3 free scans remaining today" but requires an email address and a consent checkbox reading "I agree to receive email communications from HeyTony" before it will run. If you want a scan with no email and no account, Cloudflare's isitagentready.com, AgentGrade and IsAgentReady are all unmetered and ask for nothing, and npx aiscan-cli yoursite.com needs no account either.

What is the cheapest way to monitor AI readiness continuously?

Scheduling and alerting is the one capability on this page that genuinely needs a paid plan, because no free tier offers it. The two cheapest published options on 30 August 2026 are AIScan Pro at $99 a year, which works out at $8.25 a month for ten watched sites with daily checks, and Agent Ready Pro at $19 a month for weekly monitoring with email regression alerts. If you watch a single site occasionally, a free scanner and a calendar reminder costs nothing.

Can an AI agent buy a scan without a human account?

Yes, with one vendor. Agent Ready publishes an x402 micropayment path priced at $0.02 USDC for a 25-page scan and $0.25 for a 250-page scan, settled on Base mainnet with the facilitator paying gas. That is the only machine-payable per-scan price published in this category as of 30 August 2026. Every other paid tool in the group requires a human to complete a card checkout or a sales conversation first.

Do any of these tools charge per page instead of per scan?

Page counts appear as a cap inside a scan rather than as a billing unit. Agent Ready's free tier scans 25 pages and its Pro tier scans 250 pages, so the page limit determines how much of a large site a single scan reaches. WordLift's Business+ plan is the closest to true page-based pricing, covering 2,500 URLs plus knowledge-graph usage for $879 a month billed yearly. Screaming Frog sells a licence year with no page billing at all, bounded only by your machine's memory.

Is a free scanner enough, or do I need to pay for one?

For finding problems, free is enough. Cloudflare's checker returns the full evidence chain for all 22 of its checks, AgentGrade and IsAgentReady are unmetered, and every free scanner in this article returns a findings list you can act on. Paying buys three things: history, scheduling and alerting when a fix regresses. If nobody on your team will notice a robots.txt change three months from now, that is what the money is for.
